Developing and maintaining relationships
Expectations of students are based on respect, relationships and personal responsibility. This applies to all interactions and behaviour around the College. The importance of relationships is emphasised in all aspects of College life and it is clearly understood by students, staff and parents that positive relationships are at the core of effective learning.
Sacred Heart College Kyneton is committed to the promotion and implementation of a restorative approach to student issues. In conjunction with appropriate consequences, staff and students work to resolve any breakdown within their working relationship. This may take the form of a simple conversation, down to a structured resolution process facilitated by one of the College Wellbeing Team. The intended outcome is to resolve the issue and resume working within the classroom, allowing learning to continue.
Get Real Program
Year 9 can be a challenging year for some students, but our Pastoral Care program, Get Real, gives our Year 9 cohort the opportunity to rise to the challenges set before them and flourish. Students are encouraged to become more aware of their place in the world, learning how to make their own decisions and using their initiative, while also considering the impact that their decisions and behaviour have on those around them, and in the wider global community. Focus areas for the course include a sense of positive self; where students learn to be the best version of themselves, knowing and understanding their strengths, and developing positive relationships with all those they come in contact with.
Students have the opportunity to concentrate on the six Mercy Values, undertaking a variety of activities to highlight their importance and to generate understanding and discussion. They learn how it is more effective to work as a team to achieve their goals, each playing to his or her strengths within that team.
Year 12 Mentoring and Social interactions
Recognising that the final year of VCE is often a stressful time for students and families, Sacred Heart College Kyneton has developed a Mentoring program between students and staff to offer support and advice to successfully navigate through the year. Staff members are allocated students and meet with each student and their parents to prepare a positive, goal setting plan on organisation, study timetables, nutrition, sleep habits, coping with stress and balance.
Student Wellbeing Team
The College has a highly qualified and effective counselling team. Appointments can be made directly to the Team by students, via the student office and by parent referral via the website. Services provided range from pro-active involvement with small groups around particular topics, to individual skill building and emotional assistance, to critical intervention. The SWT has strong links to the various outside agencies within the Macedon area. Educational assessments can be undertaken with referral.
