The Camp is located at at the YMCA Angelsea Recreation Centre. Year 8 level is specifically designed to follow on from the Year 7 program and encourages further development in the following areas:

Instructors from Sea, Earth and West Coast Adventure take students through two |
Giant Swing |
Participants are harnessed then attached to the swing. A swinger is hauled by their team up to 18 metres and then they release themselves by a special trigger mechanism. The activity is Challenge by Choice giving participants freedom to step into their own challenges with the encouragement of the group. |
Initiative Challenge |
Students participate in a number of team building activities deisgned for all students to show their strengths to solve the problems. |
Skateboarding |
Students are taught the basics of skating, progressing from sitting on the board to standing and rolling on the Im fun box. There is quick progression through multiple stages to get participants to attain confidence to challenge the ramps. Students are provided with safety equipment. |
Vertical Challenge |
Participants climb through a series of elements whilst attached to a harness. This is a challenge by choice activity where participants set themselves a goal from the ground to the top, eighteen meters high. |
Crate Climb |
The harnessed climber is required to use milk crates, stacking them on top of each other one at a time with a maximum height of 12 milk crates. Some of the key learning elements are teamwork, trust, communication and patience. |
Mountain Biking |
Students are involved in a mountain biking journey through the heathlands at the back of the Recreation Centre. The journey will involve a variety of terrain and students will be taught some technical skills. |
Canoeing |
Set in a sheltered environment on and around Anglesea River conducted by instructors from Ecologic. Students will develop canoeing skills as well as focusing on cooperation and communication skills.Students will be required to wear watershoes or old runners for the session, and will be provided with PFDs. |
Overnight hike |
Run by experienced YMCA Camp Leaders, students hike from the Recreation Centre into the heathlands around Anglesea. All your outdoor equipment will be provided except a sleeping bag (please see Equipment list). No matter what day you leave, you will meet with your group after lunch to receive your meals and equipment. From there it’s a short walk adequate to Year 8 Level, a cook/sleep out overnight and a walk out the following morning. |
Standup Paddleboarding |
Instructors from Ecologic will take students through an introduction to paddle boarding in the river inlet. Students learn to paddle on their knees before progressing to standing up on the board. Students are required to wear water shoes or old runners for the session and will be provided with PFDs. |
