Today’s prayer highlights that the traditional preparation time for Christmas, the season of Advent begins this Sunday 1 December 2024. The four Sundays ahead of Christmas provide time for prayer and reflection before the joy of the arrival of the baby Jesus in a stable in Bethlehem two millennia ago.
The arrangements for students are as follows:

The final weeks of school are very busy with a number of significant events for the College community:
Bereavements: Your prayers are asked for the Rayner family on the passing of Jeremy King, Uncle of Oscar Year 11. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
Yours in Mercy,
Dr Darren Egberts
Principal
Last Saturday ten Year 9 students departed with staff and parent volunteers to begin their journey on the Great Vic Bike Ride. The ride covers approximately 501 km over nine days, travelling from Wodonga on the Murray River to Healesville, in the Yarra Ranges. This is a very special year as it marks the 40th anniversary of the very first GVBR in 1984. Our students were lucky enough to be interviewed by WIN News Bendigo!
Year 12 Graduation Dinner
Last Friday night saw the 2025 Year 12 Graduation Dinner take place at the Lakeside Reception Centre in Taylor’s Lakes. The evening offers an opportunity for our Year 12 students to get together and celebrate for the final time as a cohort, as well as providing a formal conclusion to their time as a member of Sacred Heart College. It is also a wonderful opportunity for parents to celebrate their own role in their child’s time at the College, especially throughout the past year as the parent of a Year 12 student.
The red carpet was well and truly rolled out as our graduates arrived early in the evening, all looking resplendent in their formal wear. Students were all presented to the audience and the formal party individually, allowing each to have their achievements throughout the year celebrated by all in attendance. The photographers – both professional and amateur – worked overtime to capture the many snapshots of students by themselves or with friends and family members, providing future treasured memories for all.
College Principal, Dr Darren Egberts, spoke about of the immense contribution this cohort has made towards Sacred Heart College over their 6-year journey, before our wonderful College Captains of 2024 – Imogen Sparrow, Isabelle McBride and Stehanie Waddington – concluded the formal component of the evening with Acknowledgement of Country, Grace before dinner, and the acknowledgement of the significant role played by various staff members throughout the past six years of this cohort’s secondary education at the College.
A three-course dinner was enjoyed by attendees, before the introduction of a DJ who filled the dance floor for the next couple of hours.
Congratulations to our 2025 Year 12 graduates. We wish you all the best for wherever life takes you beyond your Sacred Heart journey and we thank you all for your respective contributions to Sacred Heart College life during your tenure.
Looking for ways to keep your child engaged and entertained this summer? Encourage them to continue their reading journey with Wheelers, our school’s ebook and audiobook platform.
Students can access Wheelers through Simon’s library links or by downloading the Wheelers app to their mobile device. Using their school login credentials, your child can easily access thousands of books.
Whether they’re on holidays, at home under the air conditioner, in the car or on the go, your child can read anytime, anywhere. The summer holidays is also the perfect time for them to develop a "TBR" (to be read) list for 2025. They can use Wheelers to discover new authors and genres, broadening their borrowing habits and strengthening their reading skills. You could also get them to login in and have an explore for yourself!
Feel free to reach out to the library team if you have any questions.
Kyneton Rotary Club - Seeking a Host Family
Sacred Heart College has had a long relationship with the Rotary Club of Kyneton, and their Student Exchange Program.
Year 11 student, Ivar Jecny, from the Czech Republic, has been with us at Sacred Heart since July 2024. We are now seeking the assistance of a host family for Ivar for approximately mid January to March, and then again in May to early July.
Ivar is a delightful young man, fluent in four languages, plays Piano and likes sport and running.
For more details contact the Rotarian John Condliffe 0419397936.
We have received an overwhelming thank you from the coordinators of the Kyneton Show, as our students were outstanding. This is the feedback from Mr Paul Fox who coordinator the woodwork tent:
"I was very impressed by the students. They were keen, listened attentively and took on the instructions well. They worked hard the entire time and were happy to do anything I asked of them, with a number of them agreeing to stay a little longer than their allocated shifts to help given how busy we were. Special mention for Stella Egberts and Benjamin Knight, who were the standouts for stepping up and working hard. Many thanks to Sam Weir for coordinating the students again this year."
Well done to our amazing students!
Year 8 Reflection Day
Last week our Year 8s spent time contemplating what it means to be a person of compassion, as a focal point of their Reflection Day. Their time began with a presentation from Adrian Eagle, who used story and song to share wisdom from his own lived experience about the spirit of abiding love that exists between us all. The event drew to a close with a Year Level liturgy held in the church of Our Lady of the Rosary. The students who led the prayer and scripture as part of this liturgy are warmly thanked, and all Year 8s are commended for their involvement in the Reflection Day.
This year Sacred Heart College participated in the Debaters Association of Victoria junior and senior debating and public speaking competitions. We were represented by 31 debaters across junior and senior levels.
Our senior debaters travelled to Ballarat Grammar for evening competitions whilst our junior debaters participated in zoom competitions, internal and external training.
Students attended a “debating” class one period a cycle and committed some of their lunch time to debating preparation.
For 2025, we have introduced two new positions to our College Cabinet. It is with delight that I announce Sophie Dunn as our Senior Debating Captain and Matilda Matthews as our Junior Debating Captain. Both students will bring their debating talents to their roles and will be wonderful role models for our debating team. We have fantastic public speaking and debating talent at the College.
To celebrate our achievements this year, we gathered in the beautiful Spring weather for a pizza lunch.
I would like to sincerely thank Ms Lydia Lawrence for her support of our debating program this year. You have been a fabulous support to both myself and our students.
Year 7 & 8 Food Technology – Healthy Hamburger Design Brief
This Term in Food Technology we have been working on a design brief to create a healthy hamburger teenagers would enjoy. Students had an opportunity to brainstorm typical burger ingredients and recipe ideas, then create a shopping list to make the burger of their choice. During a practical lesson they had fun independently creating their hamburgers. Afterwards they evaluated how healthy their burger was and also analysed it’s sensory properties.
Year 9 Food Technology – Multicultural foods
Students had an opportunity to research a country of their choice, to form an understanding of the typical cuisine there and what is commonly cooked and prepared. They investigated different savoury recipes from their selected country, then during a practical lesson, cooked a dish of their choice. The room was a buzz with lots of different cooking techniques, ingredients, and aromas. Students really enjoyed and opportunity to independently try something new and get creative in the kitchen.
